YOUTH ORCHESTRA, CYCNY
The Youth Orchestra is a Queens-based Youth Orchestra founded in 1996.
The orchestra holds its open audition in the fall for members;
it meets for rehearsal on each Saturday from 1-4 PM at MS 158 in Bayside,
Queens, NYC from October to June. Our outstanding faculty members are;
Chijen Christopher Chung, director, conductor & string; Chi-Ching Grace Lin,
percussion; Chiwei Chang, wind & librarian; Lovell Chang, wind & brass;
Jeffrey Liang, music consultant, Patsy Chen, artistic director and
Jason Chang, executive director.
The orchestra presents two formal concerts annually.
The Holiday Concert for the community during holiday season in Queens;
and the Annual Concert at Lincoln Center in spring. The orchestra also performs
concerts for community service at community institution, senior center and
nursing home. Such as concerts in 2013-14 are at: Florence E. Smith Senior Services
on December 7th; Sivercrest Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on December 8th;
Cardozo High School on December 15th ; Poppenhusen Institute on May 1Oth and Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center on May 24th.
In some summers, this orchestra had organized concert tours to West Coast,
Europe and Asia. The 7th Asia Tour was
successfully accomplished in the summer of 2012,
performed in concerts with Da-Fong Elementary School Orchestra of
New Taipei City in Osaka and Taipei, under the conducting of Cheng-Wen Winnie Lai and Tze-Fu Liu.
Our mission is to provide the multicultural and orchestral experiences to talented and
serious music students age 11-18, with our unique repertories of Classical, Popular,
Jazz, Film, Broadway, Asian and New Music.Our program is sponsored, in part by the
Public Funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; other sponsors
including: Culture Center & Taipei Cultural Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural
Office inNew York.
